Last night at 10PM, I started up ice hockey again. I need some sort of physical activity again... other than sleeping or sitting up while I type on the keyboard. Ok to be fair to myself, I have been running on the treadmill, so, ok. I still need more activities. I need to somehow shed oh... 15... err... 30lbs... or more, whatever. I gotta look as sick as I did in High School, ok I never looked sick... Healthy I guess was the word... or is healthy what you call people with some holiday fat? um whatever... So yeah, I kept this game somewhat on the downlow, mainly 'cause I figured no one would come anyway, ok the real reason? I didn't want everyone so see how out of shape I am... I managed to get
moO and my parents to go watch me, though, with my dad grumbling like, ''Why do I have to come if he has [moO] going''. So, whatever, I had my own support team up in the stand.
Actually, it wasn't so bad. I mean, I really did look... not at the top of my game... But, I was afraid I'd feel
MUCH worse. So, in the second period we were down 3-1. (did I mention were a new ''franchise'', the other teams had these snazzy pro type jerseys) I started out at center, which quickly killed my stamina. (jeez, gimmie a break, I haven't played in like 2-3 months!) and was moved to right wing. Not a position I'm used to, as I used to play center. (the phrase is: USED TO)
So, let me paint a picture for you, kind of like in baseball: bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, tie score, full count, you're up to bat, only more dramatic. Ok, its our first game, so maybe not so dramatic. I'm 1 on 1 with the goalie... oh and the guy in between us. I'm skating alone to them, a few dekes waiting as long as I can to close the distance between us for a good shot, I let it go, GOAL! YAY! I get the winning goal of the game. How cool is that?!
Ok, we didn't win any championship, I'm still tired as heck, so maybe not so cool. Well, I guess it's cool I got a goal. I mean it was bad enough I showed the guys my horrible stamina on the ice. My only excuse was, ''I'm getting old.'' To which I added a chuckle, since most of the guys there were much, or not so much, older than me. I haven't yet been able to show my true ability on ice... Or did I? Nah, I know I can do better. I just gotta keep on at it. Keep running, maybe even go to Hockey Work-Out, go to some free-skate over there at Vallco.
Hey, wait a minute! I should still have like 9 free passes to my account there! LOL I paid for them like when I had money and never used them. Guess where I'll be going every so often... Well, time for me to rest. I've had a strenuous night.
